2018 Spring Softball - Juniors (Grades 8/9) [LLSBB1818SSJUN]
"Juniors" League players must be in grade 8 or 9 during the current school year.
Juniors (8-9th) is a competitive league with Fairfield, Black Rock, Trumbull, Stratford and maybe more. Pitching is from 43'. Games may be scheduled anytime during the week. Practices will begin as soon as the weather allows in late March (games begin in early April). High School freshman players may join the league in late May when the HS releases them. There is a weekly practice at a time chosen by the coaches. Please list conflict days as prompted in the registration process so coaches can try to schedule practices around them but there are usually only 1-2 teams so flexibility is limited. If you sign up to play, the team will be counting on you to be there most of the time.
The season concludes with a tournament.
The rules are similar to High School.
2018 Spring Softball - Majors (Grades 6/7) [LLSBB1818SSMAJ]
"Majors" League players must be in grade 6 or 7 during the current school year.
Majors (6-7th) is a competitive league in town that may include some play with surrounding towns. Pitching is from 40' and the girls are getting good at it. Games are on Saturday mornings at 9:00am, or under the lights in the evening, and once during the week, usually Tuesdays at 5:30pm with a rain date on Thursday. Practice and pre-season games will take place starting late March and the official schedule starts right after the break. There is a weekly practice at a time chosen by the coaches. Please list conflict days as prompted in the registration process so you won't be assigned to a team with whom you can't practice (within limits). If you sign up to play, the team will be counting on you to be there most of the time.
Runners lead on the pitch and stealing now includes home.
The catcher becomes vital and outfielders see the ball a lot.
The season concludes with a playoff tournament.
2018 Spring Softball - AAA (Grades 4/5) [LLSBB1818SSAAA
AAA League players must be in grade 4 or grade 5 during the current school year.
"AAA" League (4-5th) will play once during the week on Monday 5:30 pm (with rain day makeups on Wednesdays) and Saturday morning at 11:00 am (games have a 2 hour time limit). Practice and pre-season games will take place starting late March (weather permitting) and the official schedule starts right after the break. There is a weekly practice at a time chosen by the coaches. Please list conflict days as prompted in the registration process so you won't be assigned to a team with whom you can't practice (within limits). Friend requests are considered but the teams are drafted by coaches to create a competitive balance throughout the league. This league begins the girls' experience with the real game. If you sign up to play, the team will be counting on you to be there most of the time.
The girls pitch from 35'. For the first part of the season, after 2 walks a coach will come in to pitch on a 3 ball count. At the conclusion of the at-bat the pitcher returns. Coaches can't walk batters. Later in the season the girls will pitch themselves.
Walks, strikeouts, limited stealing, bunting and running the bases are part of the game.
Rules exist to be sure all girls have similar opportunities to play.
More rules can be found under DOCUMENTS to the left.
Scores and Standings are kept, and there are playoffs for all teams with the chance to win a championship.
The league plays in town.
2018 Spring Softball - A3 (Grade 3) [LLSBB1818SSA3]
AA3 League players must be in grade 3 during the current school year.
"AA3" League (3rd grade) will play on Saturday at 9:00am (games have a 1.5 hour time limit). Weekly professionally coached clinics will take place on Wednesday & Friday afternoons at 4:00 pm. Team practices may be offered in addition or instead at some point in the season. Date/Time would be determined by your coach. Please list your conflict times where prompted in the registration process. This league begins the girls' experience with the real game. The girls pitch and catch with coach backup. Stealing begins and sliding begins. One base on an overthrow also makes this game exciting. If you sign up to play, the team will be counting on you to be there most of the time. The season runs from after April break through the end of school.
2018 Spring Softball - A2 (Grade 2) [LLSBB1818SSA2]
A2 League players must be in grade 2 during the 2017-2018 school year.
"A2" League (2nd) will play Saturday mornings at 11:00am (games have a 1.5 hour time limit) from right after the spring break to the end of school. They will also have practice clinics every Wednesday & Friday at 4:00 pm. If you have a conflict on one day you'll be able to go on the other. General rules of play: Outs are recorded and 3 outs ends an inning. Coaches pitch (to begin the season) and players can develop as pitchers throughout the season and pitch when they are ready (there are no walks, but a coach will relieve a player pitcher if they throw 3 balls per batter - to keep the game moving). If a child gets 3 strikes the ball is placed on a tee until she hits it fair. One base on hit or the possibility of two if it goes to the outfield untouched. Scores are not kept.
2018 Spring Softball - Instructional (PK - Grade 1) [LLSBB1818SSINS]
Instructional League players must be in Pre-K, Kindergarten or grade 1 during the 2017-2018 school year, and be 5 years old during the Spring season. (exceptions made on a case-by-case basis).
This Instructional league will enable our youngest players to learn how to hit, throw and catch the ball. There is a "t" available for batting, but by the end of the season, all girls should be comfortable swinging at a pitch. Coaches pitch and catch. All girls get up to bat every inning and all girls play the field every inning - with the coaches rotating players around the infield so that all girls are comfortable at each base/location. There will be instructional clinics offered throughout the week so that these girls can learn/play in a very fun (friend based) environment. These clinics will be offered on Wednesday and Friday afternoons at 4:00 pm. If you can't make one, then go to the other - or go to both if you like! Games will be on Saturday afternoons, 3:00 or 4:00pm. The season begins after April break, and runs through mid-June.
2018 Spring Softball - Umpires [LLSBB1818SSUMP]
Registration for umpiring in girls softball. 7-8th graders can umpire AA3 games or AAA games with an experienced umpire while learning the rules. High School girls and exceptional younger umpires may umpire AAA (4-5th). AA3 umpires will be paid $30 for the plate and $20 for the bases (if one is assigned). Experienced umpires will be eligible to ump AAA games solo and be paid $50 - new umpires will earn the same pay as AA3 games while they are learning. Prospective umps must provide cell and cell provider information so we can communicate effectively. Umps may accept or decline an assignment without penalty but must respond promptly to assignment notifications. No shows or cancelations without 24 hours of notice (without a legitimate reason) will be immediately dropped from the program.
Registration and previous attendance at the clinic will entitle you to one assignment. Beyond that all assignments are merit based from reviews coaches are required to provide. You don't have to be perfect you just have to have the desire and commitment to be excellent at this.
